My name is Bryan Hughes. I am currently a PhD student at Trent University supervised by Dr. Jeff Bowman. My current research encompasses how landscape connectivity influences the spread of zoonotic viruses, including highly pathogenic avian influenza.
Previously, I completed an MSc at Laurentian University under the supervision of Dr. Albrecht Schulte-Hostedde and Dr. Jeff Bowman. During my MSc, I worked with the Algonquin Small Mammal Project investigating rodent behaviour and "personality" in deer mice, red-backed voles and woodland jumping mice. I also completed my BSc in environmental science and biology at Trent University. Here, I completed an undergraduate honours thesis with Dr. Jeff Bowman, using mass spectrometry to investigate the fluorescence of squirrel fur.
